The Government of Karnataka has lauded the Bengaluru City Police for implementing extensive and well-coordinated security and crowd management arrangements during the ongoing IPL 2026 matches at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium,calling it a benchmark model for other states to follow.
With a strong focus on public safety,the city police undertook over three months of advance planning, holding structured consultations with stakeholders including the Karnataka State Cricket Association and Royal Challengers Bengaluru,along with event partners.
Authorities also conducted continuous post-match reviews to fine-tune arrangements.
Several key improvements have marked this IPL season. Integration of metro services into match-day travel has significantly eased congestion, with around 19,000–20,000 spectators using the metro per match.
Strategic traffic planning ensured smooth flow on arterial roads such as Queens Road.
The introduction of QR-based digital ticketing with time-bound activation and non-transferability has curbed black marketing and strengthened access control.
Over 500 CCTV cameras and drone surveillance,backed by AI-based crowd analytics, enabled real-time monitoring and rapid response.
Police also implemented multi-layered entry systems, designated holding areas and improved gate infrastructure to streamline crowd movement.
Enhanced emergency preparedness,including ambulances,medical triage centres and evacuation protocols, further strengthened on-ground response.
Enforcement actions during the tournament have been significant.
A mobile theft case registered at Cubbon Park Police Station led to the arrest of five adults and nine juveniles, all from Jharkhand,while four others remain absconding.
The accused had reportedly travelled by flight to commit thefts inside the stadium, and were tracked using CCTV footage and technical evidence.
In addition,12 cases of cricket betting have been registered, with 17 persons arrested by the CCB.Police have also cracked down on ticket black marketing, booking 23 cases and arresting 31 accused,seizing 19 mobile phones and laptops worth Rs.48 lakh.
The government particularly appreciated the leadership of the Bengaluru Police Commissioner,the Joint Commissioner of Police (West Zone),and the DCP (Central) for their meticulous planning and execution.
Home Minister G.Parameshwara commended the police, stating that other states are considering adopting Bengaluru’s security model for managing large-scale events.
The public has been urged to continue cooperating with authorities,follow advisories,and use public transport to ensure a safe and smooth match-day experience.
The government reiterated its commitment to further upgrading infrastructure,including last-mile connectivity and stadium access integration, in the coming phases.
