n a swift action,Cottonpet Police arrested a labourer Sheikh Nasru,30,for slashing udders and feet of three cows tied on roadside in Vinayaka Nagar,Chamarajpet in the wee hours of Sunday (January 12, 2025).
The accused attacked the cows in an inebriated state,“The accused worked as a helper in a plastic and cloth bag stitching shop 50 metres away from where the cows were attacked and he attacked the cows in an inebriated state.
No other person is found to be involved,”said S.Girish, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Division)said.
The accused hails from Champaran District,Bihar.Based on the complaint by the owner of the cows and considering the gravity of the situation,a special team was formed who swung into action and track down Nasru,who stayed a few meters away from the crime scene.
Probe revealed that the accused was upset that the cows are tied on roadside every day and soil the area.
He used to work as helper to clean the used plastic bags to be reused to stitch for bags.He picked up the blade used to clean the plastic bags and slashed the cows at around 3 am.He was drunk on the previous night as there was no work on Sunday, a police officer, said .
Further investigation revealed that it was a solo act and no one is involved.However the complainant and the family alleged that more people are involved in the act and demanded the arrest of shop owner and others who allegedly instigated Nasru to act.
Meanwhile Minister and MLA,Zameer Ahmed Khan visited the complainant family and assured to help him to get three cows .
Nasru arrested Sunday (January 12, 2025) night, produced before a magistrate at his residence and remanded into 14 days judicial custody. The police will likely seek his custody on Monday.
The incident triggered protests by Hindutva organisations and opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday (January 12, 2025), who termed the incident a “terror attack” and alleged it was a deliberate attack to create fear psychosis in the Hindu community.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G. Parameshwara intervened,condemned the ghastly attack and assured of swift action against the accused.
Meanwhile,the three cows that were attacked are being treated at a veterinary hospital and are said to be out of danger.
The police deployed additional police force in the sensitive area as precautionary measures to monitor law and order.
