Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said since independence, the Congress Party ruled the country for 55 years and they had given only 20 per cent grant to the states.
But it was hiked to 42 se cent after the BJP-led government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power.
The Congress leaders were making baseless allegations against the Central Government to mislead the people.
Speaking to media persons after presenting a resolution against the state government in response to the resolution adopted by the Congress government against the union government here on Friday,he said the Congress Party has destroyed the sanctity of the Legislative Assembly by adopting a resolution against the Central Government and displayed it’s audacity to tell lies.
The government was trying to mislead the people by blaming the central government for doing injustice to Karnataka.
He said during the Congress regime, the states taxes was just 20 per cent and at that time the leaders of South India led by Ramakrishna Hegde launched a stir seeking a hike.
But the Congress-led UPA Government had flatly refused to hike the grant to the states.Within few years after the PM Modi camento power, the share of the states was hiked to 42 percent from 32 per cent.
Bommai said the state would not only get the grant from the central government not only the GST compensation but also for the other central government sponsored schemes.
Besides,the money was directly credited in to the bank account of the beneficiaries by the union government. Hiding this, the state had been claiming of injustice to the state from the central government.
The money for Peripheral Ring Road would come from the central government provided the state government starts the project.
The Government of India has given around Rs.13000 crore for National Highways as well as for railway projects.
The state had received funds from various schemes like the Pradhan mantri Awas,Swachcha Bharat, aayushman Bharat and Amrit Nagar.
The former CM said in last five years, Karnataka had received Rs.1,06,000 lakh crore as the GST compensation.The tenure of the 15th Finance Commission still exists.
Another Rs one lakh crore was expected.The central government had given the GST compensation based on 14 per cent growth rate till 2023.
Though the GST compensation era ended,the state government was still misleading the people by adding the year 2023-24.
To create state-union governments confrontation, and for the political gains, the Congress Party was blaming the central government.
So,the BJP members moved a resolution against the resolution passed by the ruling party.
Bommai said since no one opposed their resolution, the BJP’s resolution had been accepted unanimously.
