Karnataka: Woman taken into custody for setting daughters ablaze; one dead

he Mulabagilu police have arrested a 25-year-old woman who set fire to her two minor daughters over a domestic on Tuesday night.

While one of her seven-year-old daughter,Akshaya was succumbed to the injuries,her youngest daughter,Udayashri aged six years was battling for life in Victoria hospital .

Senior officer told reporters,the accused Jyothi, resident of Kuruvapalli village in Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh was married to Thirumalesh,seven years ago .

It was a love marriage and they got married despite oppositions from her parents .

The couple used to fight frequently and Jyothi after a fight got out of her house to go to her parents with her two children but on the way went to Anjanadri hill on Tuesday evening.She carried a bottle of petrol,poured on her children and set them on fire .

The incident came to light when the villagers heard child writhing in pain and rushed to find Jyothi sitting while the two children were burnt and wrapped in a mat.

The Mulabagilu police rushed the children to hospital where the doctor declared Akshaya was brought dead while Udayashri was critical and shifted to Victoria hospital burns ward .

Initial probe revealed that Jyothi was attempting to end life waiting for the children to die .

Further investigations are on ascertain the cause of her extreme step, the police said .
