A CBI Special Court in Chennai on Thursday sentenced gangster Chhota Rajan to seven years’imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹55,000 after convicting him in a passport fraud case involving forged documents and impersonation.
According to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the court found Rajan guilty of cheating,forgery,cheating by personation,and knowingly submitting forged documents to obtain an Indian passport.
The CBI had registered the case on March 19,2002, alleging that Rajan fraudulently obtained a passport from the Regional Passport Office in Chennai by posing as”Vijaya Kadam”and submitting forged documents, including a school transfer certificate,ration card and demand draft.
The investigation established that the passport applicant identifying himself as Vijaya Kadam was in fact Rajendra alias Nana alias Chhota Rajan,son of Sadashiv and a resident of Mumbai.
The agency found that he had used fabricated documents as proof of age and residence to secure the passport.
Following the investigation,the CBI filed a charge sheet against Rajan on January 22, 2004.
After completing the trial,the Special CBI Court convicted him and awarded a seven-year prison sentence along with ₹55,000 fine.
Rajan is currently lodged in Tihar Jail, New Delhi, where he is already serving a life sentence in another criminal case. The latest conviction will run in accordance with the court’s directions and applicable prison rules.
