CBI Arrests Two Postal Employees in Rs.1.3 Crore Post Office Savings Fraud

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two employees of the Postal Department—a Postal Assistant and a Postman attached to the Saragur Post Office in Mysuru district—for allegedly misappropriating around Rs.1.3 crore from the Post Office Savings Accounts of 44 customers.

According to the CBI,the case was registered in March 2026 following a written complaint from the Postal Department.

The accused have been booked for offences of criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust, and forgery under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS),along with provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act,1988.

The investigation has revealed that the accused allegedly siphoned off funds from customers’ savings accounts between 2022 and 2025 by misusing customers’ login credentials and passwords to fraudulently transfer money.

The stolen funds were allegedly diverted into the bank accounts of the accused and their relatives.

The CBI suspects that the fraud may extend to additional accounts, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the full extent of the misappropriation.

Both accused were produced before the CBI Special Court in Bengaluru, which granted the agency police custody for custodial interrogation.

The CBI said it is continuing its investigation to uncover the complete conspiracy and identify any other persons involved in the fraud.
