Swift action by personnel from the Bengaluru City Police and Fire and Emergency Services saved the life of a man who allegedly attempted suicide by trying to jump from an apartment building in Ramamurthynagar on Thursday morning.
Senior officer told reporters that,the incident occurred at around 9.23 am in Ankappa Reddy Layout,Kasturi Nagar, under the limits of the Bengaluru City Police.
A family member alerted the 112 emergency helpline after noticing the individual,who was reportedly experiencing mental distress,attempting to jump from the building.
The emergency response team immediately relayed the information to Assistant Sub-Inspector Chowdappa and Head Constable Parashuram,who were on duty in Hoysala-241 attached to the Ramamurthynagar Police Station.
Police said the officers reached the spot within six minutes and coordinated with personnel from the Karnataka Fire and Emergency Services to carry out a rescue operation.
The team successfully brought the man to safety, preventing the suicide attempt.
During preliminary inquiry, the individual reportedly told officers that he had taken the drastic step because his family had decided to admit him to a hospital for medical treatment.
Police personnel subsequently counselled and reassured him before safely handing him over to his family members.
Officials said the incident underscores the importance of timely intervention,coordination among emergency services and compassionate policing in responding to people facing emotional or psychological crises.
The prompt and professional response of police and fire personnel helped save a precious life,authorities added.
