Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar today said that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Mekedatu project will be submitted to the Centre soon and the ground breaking ceremony will be held as soon as the Central government gives approval for the project.
Speaking to reporters at Kollegal helipad and later at Madhyaranga temple,he said,”The DPR for the Mekedatu project has been prepared and we have opened an office for this project. We are identifying land to provide alternative land for the forest area that will be submerged.
The DPR will be submitted to the Centre soon and the Bhoomi puja for the project will be held after the Central Government’s approval.”

“A clear order has been given that 177 TMC of water must be released to Tamil Nadu from Cauvery basin.
I will discuss in the coming days how this is to be resolved.
The Supreme Court has ordered that Tamil Nadu has no right to object to the Mekedatu project, and that the Central Water Commission must decide on this matter,” he said.
“What matters is not just being in power, but what we do while in power. Our government has completed three years. We have walked the talk.
Additionally,we have provided the Bhoo Guarantee scheme as the sixth guarantee. We are delivering property records to every household with the beneficiary’s photo and a photo of the property included in the documents.
We are repaying our debt to the people by doing work that others could not do.We will do even more work in the next 2 years.
The last two years saw good rainfall. We are discussing how to protect farmers and how to resolve the drinking water problem if there is a rainfall deficit this year,” he said.
*Belief that visiting Chamarajanagar district causes loss of power is superstition:
“Chamarajanagar is a historic district, a sacred land on the banks of the Cauvery river, rich in religious and natural wealth. The belief that visiting Chamarajanagar district causes one to lose power is superstition.
Wherever there is devotion,God is present.People find peace by visiting the sacred shrines of Male Mahadeshwara,Madhyaranga,Siddappaji, and Gopalaswamy.
The tradition of visiting the Adiranaga,Madhyaranga, and Anthyaranga temples from morning until sunset has been followed for generations,”he said.
“Our government and private parties together are carrying out renovation work on this temple.Even though there is a Cabinet meeting today, many ministers including myself have come for this event.
A Cabinet meeting was held here and many steps have been taken for the development of this region.Steps have been taken for industrial development.
We have kept our word by providing government jobs to family members of those who died in the oxygen tragedy. Our Minister Venkatesh has done work that will go down in the pages of history,”he said.
*Preparations for GBA Elections:
When asked about the GBA elections,he clarified:”The responsibility of conducting the GBA elections lies with the Election Commission.
The government is fully ready to cooperate in conducting the elections. The elections will be held on schedule. We will all make our preparations.”When asked when he would become Chief Minister, he replied:”Time will decide that.”
