Rs.16.03 Lakh Penalty Imposed on Streetlight Maintenance Contractors

*Assessment of Streetlight Functionality on Arterial and Sub-Arterial Roads.
As per the directions of the Chief Commissioner of the Greater Bengaluru Authority and under the leadership of Pommala Sunil Kumar,Commissioner,Bengaluru North City Corporation,extensive night inspections were conducted on major roads across the city on September 10 and 11,2026.
A joint inspection of 156 major arterial and sub-arterial roads was carried out along with senior officials and engineering teams of the Corporation across Yelahanka, Byatarayanapura,Pulakeshinagar,Sarvagnanagar,Hebbal, Dasarahalli and three wards of Rajarajeshwarinagar.
During the night inspections,a total of 2,290 faulty electrical streetlights were identified due to the lack of regular inspection and maintenance by the contractors’ staff.
Since this had resulted in dark spots that could pose a risk to public safety,penalties were imposed on the concerned contractors as per the terms and conditions of the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Agreement.
Details of Penalties Imposed on Contractors:
*In Yelahanka Constituency,26 faulty streetlights and in Byatarayanapura Constituency,905 faulty streetlights were identified.A penalty of ₹6,51,700 was imposed on eSmart Energy Solutions Limited.
*In Pulakeshinagar Constituency, 82;Sarvagnanagar Constituency,1,075;and Hebbal Constituency,79 faulty streetlights were identified.A total penalty of ₹8,65,200 was imposed on M/s. Effilume Private Limited for these areas.
*In Dasarahalli Constituency, 96 faulty streetlights were identified, and a penalty of ₹67,200 was imposed on M/S.Trans Global Power Limited.
*In Rajarajeshwarinagar Constituency, 27 faulty streetlights were identified, and a penalty of ₹18,900 was imposed on the concerned contractor.
In total,based on the 2,290 faulty electrical streetlights identified during the night inspections,a financial penalty of ₹16,03,000 was imposed on the concerned contractors in accordance with the terms and conditions of the O&M Agreement.
Further,Pommala Sunil Kumar,Commissioner,Bengaluru North City Corporation,has instructed the concerned officials and contractors to immediately repair the faulty electrical streetlights in order to eliminate dark spots within the BNCC jurisdiction and ensure safe movement for the public.
