Gym whatsApp group row turns violent;youth assaulted in Sanjaynagar six arrested

A dispute that began in a gym WhatsApp group allegedly escalated into a violent assault on a young man in Bengaluru’s Sanjaynagar area.

According to police, the victim,Ansh Thakur,a degree student who also works part-time as a gym trainer, was allegedly attacked by Matin and his associates following an argument related to bodybuilding and comments about a trainer.

Police said Ansh had earlier trained under a private gym trainer identified as Iliyaz for nearly two years since 2023.

However,the two had reportedly not been in contact for the past six months.

On the night of May 18,a conversation in the gym’s WhatsApp group allegedly led to an argument between Iliyaz and Ansh over bodybuilding-related issues.

During the exchange,another trainee,Matin,allegedly intervened and threatened Ansh for speaking against the trainer.

The following day,Matin and his gang allegedly came near Ansh’s residence under the pretext of meeting him.

During the conversation,Matin allegedly assaulted Ansh using metal knuckles, police said.

The entire assault was reportedly captured on a nearby CCTV camera.

Based on a complaint filed by Ansh Thakur’s family, the Sanjaynagar Police Station registered a case and arrested six accused,identified as Matin,Shailendra, Pavan,Jayakanth,Shreyas and another person and further investigation is underway.
