Family of seven charred to death in a car–bus collision in Karnataka’s Yadgiri

Seven people of a single family were killed and two children injured after their car collided head-on with a bus in Karnataka’s Yadgiri.

The accident occurred within the Surpur Police Station limits while the car was overtaking a tractor.

Seven people were killed,and two kids were injured after a car collided with a bus in the Yadgiri area of Karnataka, police said.

All the passengers travelling in the car belonged to a single family and hailed from Sirwar Taluk of Raichur.

Details of the accident:

Yadgiri SP,Pruthvik Shankar explained that the accident occurred in Yadgiri District,within the Surpur Police Station limits.

There was a tragic accident in the morning between 9:30 and 9:45.So,one VRL bus travelling from Bangalore towards Gulbarga collided head-on with a car travelling from Surpur towards Sirwar,”he said.

“Out of nine passengers travelling in that car,seven are confirmed dead,two kids are critical,and they were moved to Yadgir Institute of Medical Sciences,”he said.

Eyewitness account:

According to an eyewitness, the car, while overtaking one tractor, met with a head-on collision with the bus.

Car engulfed in flames after collision:

Eyewitnesses and officials stated that the collision was extremely severe,causing the car to catch fire almost immediately.

The intensity of the blaze made it impossible for the passengers to escape,resulting in all six occupants being burnt alive.

The vehicle was reduced to a mangled, charred shell within minutes,highlighting the devastating impact of the accident.

Emergency response and rescue efforts:

Fire and emergency services personnel rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the incident.

Teams worked quickly to douse the flames and prevent the fire from spreading further.

However,by the time the fire was brought under control, all seven individuals in the car had succumbed to their injuries on the spot.

Police officials also reached the location and initiated efforts to clear the road and restore traffic movement in the area.

Rising concerns over road safety

The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety and vehicle maintenance, particularly on highways where high-speed travel increases the risk of fatal accidents.

Experts often stress the importance of regular vehicle checks, including tyre condition,to prevent such mishaps.

Officials are expected to gather further details,including the identities of the victims and statements from witnesses,as part of the ongoing probe.

Police launch investigation:

“We have taken the complaint from the victim’s family side,and we are investigating the case,”SP Shankar said.
