Promising taxi under govt scheme conman posing as BBMP Revenue officer duped a man and made away with Rs.1.15 lakh

The Central Division cyber crime police are on the lookout for a man who,posing as a BBMP revenue officer,allegedly duped a man of ₹1.15 lakh promising a taxi under government scheme.

Based on the complaint filed by Sandeep Kamalnath from Seshadripuram,the police have registered a case of cheating and under various sections of IT Act on Saturday for further investigations.

According to the complaint,the accused approached him on phone on October 18,introduced himself Punith Gowda,Revenue officer from BBMP welfare department.

He informed that the government is sanctioning taxis for the unemployed under Sarathi scheme and one such taxi was sanctioned but could not be delivered since the beneficiary failed to pay the required amount.He asked whether Sandeep would be interested to own the taxi after paying the nominal amount .

Excited by the offer,Sandeep readily agreed and paid ₹ 25,000 as registration fee online to the account number mentioned by Punith Gowda.

The accused asked some documents from Sandeep to make him believe that the process of registration has started .

In the meantime,he messaged Sandeep to pay the insurance,transfer and other fee total worth ₹1.15 lakh.

After the money was transferred online through QR code scan,the accused switched off the phone and disappeared.

Sandeep made repeated attempts to contact him before approaching the police .
