The Siddapura police busted inter state sandalwood smuggling racket and arrested a gang of four red handed minutes before they hand over to the consignment to local receiver.
Based on a tip off,a team of police intercepted two SUV vehicles parked near a hotel waiting for the receiver identified as Ravi.
The police recovered 750 kilos of 250 sandalwood pieces packed in sacks and concealed under the onion loads onions were covered for sandalwood to conceal it’s fragrance and draw undue attention .
The police also arrested Sheikh Abdul Khadar,Shiekh Sharukh to escort two SUVs driven by Parameshwar and Ram Bhoopal.
The accused are from kurnool Andhra Pradesh working for a smuggler identified as Siraj.
The police have taken up the investigation to probe more on the network and the smuggling racket spread in the city.
The total value of the seized wood including two vehicles estimated to be Rs.1.12 crore
