Karnataka will officially celebrate Engineers’ Day from next year to recognise the contribution of engineers to the state’s development,Chief Minister D.K.Shivakumar said on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters after paying floral tribute to Sir M. Visvesvaraya at K.R.Circle on Engineers’ Day, Shivakumar said he had approved a proposal to organise the celebrations through the government.
“More than one lakh engineers graduate in Karnataka every year.With India having one of the world’s largest pools of engineering talent,it is our responsibility to recognise their contribution,”he said.
He said the government would discuss the format and other details with officials before finalising the programme.
Engineers drive development :
Describing engineers as an asset to the nation, Shivakumar said they play a critical role in turning scientific research into practical solutions.
“Engineers lay the foundation for development.Their role today extends far beyond architecture and infrastructure to sectors such as energy, construction and information technology,”he said.
Shivakumar said Sir M.Visvesvaraya remained a role model for the country and highlighted his immense contribution to Karnataka.
“His legacy continues to inspire generations of engineers,”the Chief Minister said.
