Posing as under secretary,conman sent whatsapp message to,senior Assistant of Rural Development and Panchayath Raj department and made away with Rs.45,000 on Wednesday.
The cheating came to light when the victim,Hemalatha U,cross checked with her senior after transferring the money and came to know that his mobile phone whatapp number has been hacked.
According to the complaint,she received the message on her whatsapp from under secretary seeking emergency financial help of Rs.45,000.
She transferred the amount on google pay account to the number and later realized that the UPI ID belonging to Sonu Kumar.
This is one of the common form of online cheating said the police adding that the people should be careful and cross check before making any financial transactions.
Many a times,the junior staff do not want to cross check when they received such requests and later call to confirm after the transactions.
making confirmation calls before the transactions will prevent such frauds,the officer added .
The cyber crime police based on the complaint , registered a case of cheating by impersonation under IT Act and trying to track down the accused based on the transaction details .
