To ensure the comprehensive development of junctions across the city,development work under the Suraksha project is already underway at 75 locations.
Now,BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has directed officials to formulate an action plan for an additional 75 junctions.
During an inspection walk today from Kamakshipalya on Magadi Main Road to the Sumanahalli Electric Crematorium,he noted that development work at the Sumanahalli junction is currently in progress under the Suraksha initiative and instructed officials to expedite its completion.
He further stated that the Sumanahalli junction development includes pedestrian crossings, construction of islands, installation of bus bays,and other infrastructure improvements to facilitate smooth pedestrian movement.He directed that these works be completed at the earliest.
Observing that grills installed on the footpaths at the junction were forcing pedestrians to walk on the road,he instructed officials to remove the grills and re-install them elsewhere in a manner that does not obstruct pedestrian movement.
*Formulate Action Plan for “Suraksha 75”:
The objective of the Suraksha 75 project is to create a safer and more efficient traffic environment for pedestrians by redesigning busy junctions and reducing congestion.
Development works under this initiative are already being undertaken at the first set of 75 junctions by the BBMP’s Traffic Engineering Cell.In addition,officials have now been directed to prepare action plans for another 75 junctions.
*Development of Citizen-Friendly Spaces:
Noting that vehicles were parked beneath the Sumanahalli flyover,the Chief Commissioner suggested transforming that space into a citizen-friendly zone.He instructed officials to develop a design model for the same.
*Inspection of Animal Electric Crematorium:
The animal electric crematorium near Sumanahalli is currently under construction.As this is the only facility of its kind in the city,and considering the challenges posed by its inoperability,the Chief Commissioner instructed officials to accelerate its completion.
He also reviewed the newly built animal birth control center located at the same site and directed that it be made operational immediately.
Further,he instructed officials to ensure that odor control measures,such as spraying,be implemented at the mini transfer station.
*Instructions to Maintain Cleanliness:
In the Vinayaka Nagar area along Magadi Main Road, where auto tippers cannot access certain streets, pourakarmikas will collect waste using pushcarts and transfer it to auto tippers.The Chief Commissioner emphasized proper household waste collection and roadside cleanliness.
*Desilting at Vrishabhavathi Valley:
Observing silt accumulation in the Vrishabhavathi Valley near the Sumanahalli junction,the Chief Commissioner ordered its immediate removal and complete cleaning.
He also directed that if untreated sewage is being directly discharged into the valley, necessary action should be taken against the responsible parties.
During the inspection,Zonal Commissioner,Suralakar Vikas Kishor,Joint Commissioner,Sangappa,Chief Engineer,Shashikumar,Executive Engineers,and other officials were present.
