New Delhi: A 30-member group of Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims, led by Sanjay Gogia, who were caught amid the disruption caused by the devastating glacial-collapse-triggered flash floods in Nepal, has been safely rescued and is scheduled to reach New Delhi on September 1.
The group had entered through the China immigration centre on August 20, the same centre that was reportedly swept away/collapsed during the catastrophic flash flood on August 26.
Fortunately, when the disaster struck, the group had already moved nearly 500 km away from the affected immigration centre, keeping them out of the immediate danger zone.
According to information shared by the group, all 30 members are safe. They were rescued through the Kodari border on August 30 and subsequently reached Kathmandu.
The group, led by Sanjay Gogia, is scheduled to travel from Kathmandu to New Delhi on IndiGo flight 6E 1156 on September 1.
The flight is expected to arrive at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (Terminal 3) at around 6:20–6:30 PM.
Gogia is a veteran Kailash Mansarovar pilgrim and has reportedly undertaken the journey 58 times since 1998, including several journeys associated with the law Government of India.
The safe return of the group comes amid a devastating situation in Nepal and the Nepal-China border region, where the August 26 glacial collapse and subsequent flash floods caused extensive loss of life, infrastructure and property, while several pilgrims and travellers were reported missing.
The group’s safe rescue and return to India bring relief to their families following the unprecedented disaster along the Kailash Mansarovar route.
