* Top police officers rushed to Gauri Lankesh’s home after she was shot.

* She ran the weekly ‘ Gauri Lankesh Patrike,’ a Kannada tabloid.
The 55-year-old was found dead by neighbours who had first mistaken the gunshots for firecrackers. Some say they heard a two-wheeler around the same time.
Local residents immediately informed the Rajarajeshwari Nagar police and the inspector Shivareddy rushed to spot and informed his senior officer DCP West Divison M N Anucheth and the same was informed to Commissioner of Police T Suneel Kumar and with no time Commissioner of Police T Suneel Kumar, with Addl CPs as,Malini Krishnamurthy, R Hitendra,Seemanth Kumar Singh,Jt CP Crime Satheesh Kumar,other officers as DIG,D C Rajappa,DCPs as,M N Anucheth,Sharanappa,Ram Nivas Sepat,Jinendra Khangavi,with ACPs and PIs of other police stations rushed to spot and cordoned the whole area.
Gauri Lankesh, a senior journalist, activist and anti-establishment voice, was shot dead outside her home in Bengaluru by attackers who fired seven times at close range. Police suspect hired killers and her family believes the murder has been captured on one of the CCTVs closest to the porch where Ms Lankesh collapsed.
A senior journalist and activist in Bengaluru, was shot dead outside her home in Rajarajeshwari Nagar on Tuesday evening. Police said her body was found on the porch of her home in West Bengaluru. Ms Lankesh had just reached home and was about to enter when unidentified men shot at the 55-year-old journalist from close range; three bullets hit her, one on the forehead and two bullets hit her chest .
“A total of seven bullets were fired out of which four missed the target and hit the wall of the house. Three bullets had hit her two in her chest area and one in the forehead, we have recovered four empty  cartridges from the spot. Her body was taken to Victoria Hospital for a post-mortem.Bengaluru Police Commissioner T Suneel Kumar told media persons.
In the presence of her family members cops opened the door of her house and car to further inspect and after inspecting the cops even took DVR into their custody to analyse and investigate further .

Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy who was recently appointed was too rushed to the spot in no time and said that this is a very shocking incident that a firebrand journalist has been assisinated by unidentified assailants when she was about to enter house the attackers would have fired atleast 7 rounds of bullets and 3 may be hit her 2 in chest and one in forehead and as she collapsed immediately and was found lying in pool of blood, I know Ms Lankesh from past 35 years and after took charge as a Home Minister of karnataka she even sought an appointment to meet me and I have asked her to meet on Monday but before that she was killed and the Forensic experts with other team are working to nab the culprits, he said three police teams have been formed to investigate the murder of Gauri Lankesh and that the culprits must be caught. “I have spoken to the police commissioner and the Director General of Police he added .

Gauri was the elder daughter of P Lankesh a man who brought in a new brand of Kannada journalism. She followed in his footsteps, speaking her mind and running her own Kannada paper with views that were never careful or circumspect.  She was part of a group that worked for communal harmony. Her views were considered Leftist and anti-Hindutva.
She ran the weekly ‘Gauri Lankesh Patrike,’ a Kannada tabloid. Like her father, who was a noted Kannada writer, Gauri Lankesh faced opposition and criticism of her journalism. In November 2016, she had been found guilty of defamation in a case involving BJP MP Prahlad Joshi and had been sentenced to six months in jail. She was out on bail.
The shooting has caused outrage on Twitter. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan tweeted: “Shocked to hear that the brave Journalist-Activist Gauri Lankesh has been shot dead in Bengaluru. Culprits should be nabbed at the earliest.”
“Shocking and blood curdling to hear about the murder of Gauri Lankesh. These monstrous criminals must be nailed n dealt with sternly,” tweeted by Biocon’s chairman Kiran Mazumdar Shaw.
Two years ago, in 2015, MM Kalburgi, renowned scholar and the 77-year-old former Vice Chancellor of Hampi University, was shot dead at the doorstep of his home in Dharwad, Karnataka. The police are yet to make any arrests in this case.
“The CCTV camera (in the premises) has captured the whole incident. I am very confident that the culprits will be caught soon,” and we will donate Gauri’s eyes as it was my mother and her wish to donate her eyes, Indrajit Lankesh, Gauri’s brother and a filmmaker told reporters.
Ms Lankesh is survived by her mother, her sister Kavitha Lankesh, a filmmaker and her brother Indrajit who also makes films and runs Lankesh Patrike.
