The RT Nagar police have launched a manhunt for an armed man after a head constable was allegedly stabbed by him near Mekhri Circle in the early hours of Sunday.
The injured policeman has been identified as Vijay Rathod,a head constable attached to the DJ Halli Police Station.
Senior officer told reporters that the incident took place shortly after midnight when Rathod,who was travelling on his scooter,stopped near Mekhri Circle after noticing a man allegedly creating a public nuisance.
“As the head constable stopped to check on the situation,the suspect suddenly attacked him with a knife before fleeing the scene,”a senior police officer said.
Rathod sustained injuries in the attack and was rushed to a hospital,where he is undergoing treatment.His condition is stated to be stable.
RT Nagar police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify and trace the assailant.
CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being examined,and efforts are underway to apprehend the accused.
