The JP Nagar Police have registered an FIR against officials of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company and Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation following the electrocution death of a 34-year-old cobbler near a bus stop during heavy rain on Wednesday evening.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s sister, police have invoked Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (causing death by negligence not amounting to culpable homicide)and have begun further investigation.
In her complaint,Radha Manjunath,a resident of NS Palya, BTM 2nd Stage, stated that her brother, Raghavendra (34),had been working as a cobbler near a mosque on Bannerghatta Road for nearly two decades and lived with the family.
On Wednesday around 6:45 pm,a neighbour informed the family that Raghavendra had collapsed near the J.D. Mara BMTC bus stop.
When they rushed to the spot, they found him lying motionless after allegedly coming into contact with a live electric cable while working near the bus stop structure.
Preliminary observations suggest that the electrocution may have been caused either by a live wire or an electrified metal structure at the bus stop.
The complainant alleged negligence on the part of civic and transport authorities for failing to ensure public safety in a busy area.
Police said they will probe the roles of the official concerned of departments and take necessary action.
It may be recalled that the Lokayukta along with senior officials visited the Bowring hospital a day after the incident and registered a suo motu case.
The state government formed two inquiry committees to probe the incident in detail .
