With several roads in the city still blocked by fallen trees even 36 hours after heavy rains,traffic police personnel took matters into their own hands and cleared debris to restore vehicular movement in parts of Bengaluru.
At Jayanagar 2nd Block,particularly on the 7th Main Road,a large tree that had collapsed was obstructing traffic.
As no immediate action was taken by the civic body, traffic personnel stepped in,cut the tree,and cleared the road to ease congestion.
Similarly,personnel from, Magadi Road,Wilson Garden traffic police station, Rajajinagar, Malleswaram,RT Nagar traffic inspectors with staff were seen cutting the tree and removed a fallen tree that had been disrupting vehicle movement in the area.
Magadi Road Traffic staff Ayub a cobra staff who was deployed at JJ Nagar junction was also seen cutting the fallen trees and cleared the road to ease congestion.
In another instance,a tree remained lying across the road near Central College,forcing authorities to shut one side of the road,leading to traffic bottlenecks.
Despite the passage of over 36 hours since the rains, several trees and branches continue to remain uncleared on city roads,severely affecting traffic flow in Rajajinagar, Magadi road,near Basava Mantapa junction.The delay by the civic authorities has drawn criticism,as commuters continue to face inconvenience.
Officials on the ground said that immediate intervention by traffic police helped restore partial movement,but a comprehensive clearance is still awaited.
