The Commercial Street Police Station has registered an unnatural death case in connection with the Bowring Hospital wall collapse tragedy that claimed seven lives and left seven others injured in Bengaluru.
Senior officer,said that within 23 hours of the incident,all legal formalities—including post-mortem examinations—were completed,and arrangements were made to transport the bodies of the deceased to their native places.
Two of the victims,hailing from Assam and Bihar,were flown to their respective states along with their relatives.
The families were also handed compensation cheques of Rs.5 lakh each from the state government.Two women victims from Ernakulam were sent to their hometown in Kerala in air-conditioned ambulances arranged by the police.
As part of the investigation,police have sought expert opinion from the Public Works Department to assess the structural quality of the compound wall and determine the cause of the collapse.
Inputs have also been requested from the India Meteorological Department regarding rainfall intensity in the area at the time of the incident.
According to preliminary findings,the compound wall was over 25 years old,which may have contributed to the mishap.
On Thursday,police, along with a forensic team, conducted a detailed spot inspection.
A report based on expert findings will be submitted to the government for further action,a senior police officer said.
