As part of intensified surveillance and regular inspections inside prisons, officials on Monday seized contraband items including ganja and tobacco that were found abandoned near the prison perimeter wall.

According to prison authorities,a paper ball wrapped in plastic was recovered during routine morning inspection around 7:50 am near the wall between Barracks 4 and 5.

The suspicious packet was first noticed by a woman warder,Lakshmidevi, during her patrol duty.

She immediately alerted Assistant Superintendent Eeranna Rangappa, following which the packet was inspected.

Officials found 44 grams of ganja,64 grams of tobacco, two small plastic bottles labelled“Good Night,”rolling paper, and other materials, all wrapped in black tape—indicating an attempt to smuggle prohibited items into the prison.

Preliminary inquiry suggests that the contraband was likely thrown over the prison wall by unknown persons from outside with the intention of supplying it to inmates.

A complaint has been filed by prison authorities, seeking action against those involved in smuggling and anyone who may have aided in using or distributing the banned substances.

Based on the complaint by incharge Superintedent of Prison,Karna B Kshatri,The parappana Agrahara police have registered a case against unknown persons under relevant sections of the Karnataka Prisons (Correctional Services) Act,2022, and also under NDPS act for further investigation.
