A day after the incident of crackers burst during Ganesha procession killing a minor boy and injuring nine others,The Doddaballapur police on Saturday arrested four persons part of the organizing committee under culpable homicide and explosive substances act .
The accused Chandra Kumar,45,Maruthi,19,Kishore,25 and Manjunath,38 were taken into custody for further investigations to ascertain the facts of the incident,CK Baba,Superintendent of Police,Bengaluru district,said .
15-year-old Muni alias Dhanush,was killed and nine others including two children and a police constable on duty,were injured
According to the police,the Ganesha idol was placed on the front portion of the forklift while a large crowd surrounding it moved through the Muttur village towards the immersion spot.
The multi-shot cracker box,were kept next to the silencer of the forklift and it was suspected that due to spark the the crackers started bursting .
“It is yet to be clear what triggered the crackers to burst — it may be due to the heat or spark from the silencer, but it is under investigation,”As soon as the box was lit, multiple shots of crackers were fired from it directly into the crowd.
One rocket hit the ribs of Muni,killing him.
Among the injured was Doddaballapura Town station police constable Zakir Hussain,who was part of the police team manning the crowd.
He was near the forklift,directing the driver to move quickly when the cracker hit him and sliced a chunk of flesh from his left arm.
The others who sustained injuries but were out of danger were two children aged 13 and 16;Muniraju,27, the forklift driver;and Nagaraj,35,who had come out of his house to see what was happening.
The Doddaballapur Town police have registered a case against the organiser, Maruthi,and others,under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 125A (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and other relevant sections.
Despite several preventive measures and peace meeting, the tragic incident occurred killing a minor boy turning the celebrations into mourning.
Taking a strong exception and based on the police report,the Bengaluru rural district administration imposed ban on crackers during procession or any other public gathering .
In the order issued on Saturday,Deputy Commissioner, AB Basavaraju, said that there are around 1800 idols installed across the district in this year .
Considering the tragic incident and keep in mind the safety and security of the members of general public , use of crackers or any explosive substances have been banned during the installation and immersion procession,public gathering or any religious or political functions in the district .
