Engineer lost Rs.2.6 lakh for clicking an APK file to pay penalty of traffic violations online

A 50-year-old engineer lost Rs.2.6 lakh by clicking an APK file to pay penalty of traffic violations online,who later approached Kodigehalli police seeking help to recover his lost money.

Based on the complaint filed by Murali Mohan,resident of Telecom layout the police have registered an FIR against unknown person on August 2 for further investigation.

According to the complaint,Mr.Mohan was checking the online on government website to clear his dues of traffic violations.

Few minutes later he received an APK link from an unknown number asking him to click the file to pay the dues .

Soon after clicking the link,his phone was hacked and a total of Rs.2,65,979 has been deducted through unauthorised transactions .

The police who are trying to track down the accused through the transaction details advised people not to click any APK filed they receive.

This is one of the common Modus Operandi of the cyber fraud which will may activate due to heavy rush for payment of fines online dues,he said .
