Theft accused commits suicide inside toilet at MK Doddi police station,CID takes over probe

A 59-year-old habitual offender,accused in a case of theft in a temple,ended his life at the washroom of MK Doddi police station on Wednesday.

Since this is technically amounts to custodial death,the case was handed over to Criminal Investigation department for a detailed probe .

The deceased Ramesh,resident of Mandya and was convicted in a house break theft was again arrested by MK Doddi police along with two others for stealing valuables from the temple few days ago.

The trio has been produced before the magistrate and taken into police custody for further investigation and recovery process .

On Monday morning,Ramesh went to the washroom in police escort and hanged to the ceiling using the lungi he was wearing .

The incident came to light when escort on suspicion that he was not coming out even after long time,called him several times and later broke open the door to find him hanging.

He was rushed to the near-by hospital where the doctor declared him as dead.

Superindentendent of Police,Bengaluru south,Srinivas Gowda,visited the station and ordered an inquiry into the incident to ascertain any lapses on part of the staff.

Meanwhile,family members of the Ramesh cried foul demanding a detailed probe to ascertain the exact cause of the death.
