In the wake of a recent spurt in robberies, the State police chief has instructed all jurisdictional police units to enhance security arrangements, conduct security audits and intensify patrolling.

In a circular issued on Monday,Director General and Inspector General of Police,Dr.MA.Saleem had directed the police to conduct comprehensive security audits at the banks,ATMs and jewel shops in their respective areas to identify vulnerable spots and implement preventive measures.

The move aims to reassure the public and deter criminal activities through increased police visibility and rapid response readiness.

In a 11 points instructions issued to all the units heads, Mr.Saleem directed the police to emphasis on banks, ATMs and jewellery shops and conduct security audit to ensure all the security measures in places.

If the police officials found any lapses the concerned officials should be intimated about the same to get it fixed.

However the circular has not specified mandatory security measures at the banks and ATMs and action for failing to comply, which was enforced strictly after the infamous ATM attack on bank employee in the heart of the city in 2013 .

Majority of the Banks and ATMs around the city do not have security guards to ensure law and order .

The police officers should ensure proper lights,CCTV and alarm system and security guards in the ATMs coming in their jurisdiction,Mr.Saleem said adding that the police should also ensure all the ATMs installed at the key areas should be monitored and ensured that its is functioning properly.

This is very essential for maintaining law and order and crime investigations.

Plain cloth policemen must be deployed at the strategic locations at the heavy commercial activities to monitor any suspicious activities apart from keeping an eye on the parked vehicles on the road in and around the banks and commercial areas to conduct regular checks .

The police should also conduct awareness drive with the bank officials, jewellers and owners of commercial establishments, truck and cab drivers moving on the road to create awareness on safety and security .

The police should also keep an eye on the movement of vehicles on high ways especially during night time and also monitor the movements of habitual offenders on regular basis .

According to the senior police officials, the order is nothing knew but a reminder to the routine work of the jurisdictional police officers.
