A 35-year-old autorickshaw driver was assaulted by a group of eight men after he refused to chant JSR religious slogan in Hegde Nagar in Sampigehalli police station limits on Sunday .
While the police claimed that the victim has not mentioned anything of that sort,the complainant speaking to media persons reiterated that he stated that he was assaulted black and blue when he refused to chant the slogan and even heckled him when he cried in god’s name .
The victim,Waseem was riding autorickshaw along with his friend Sameer,a mechanic by profession on Sunday . The duo stopped at a vacant site to relieve themselves.
The accused who were sitting and drinking near-by confronted them and asked their identity and questioned them the purpose of the visit .
While Waseem is trying to reason with them,the accused realized his identity (as muslim)and attacked him.They were asking me to chant Jai Sriram for which i refused.
The accused got furious and started to punch and kick me.Sensing trouble,Sameer escaped while the accused who are around eight started to beat Waseem black and blue .
One of the accused showed mercy and helped Waseem to escape,He even helped me to start autorickshaw and drove away,Waseem,said .
After reaching home Waseem narrated his ordeal and approached the police.The Sampigehalli police sent Waseem to Yelahanka General hospital for medical examination, before taking up a case of assault .
The police have registered a case of assault and efforts are on to track down the accused.The police said that Waseem did not mention about attack was due to not chanting religious slogan,but due to trivial row .
However Waseem clarified that the accused assaulted him because he refused to chant the slogans and he even mentioned the same in the statement.
The Sampigehalli police have registered a case under intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace,criminal intimidation, assault and wrongful restraint for further investigation.
