A 28-year-old man allegedly ended his life after slitting his throat in a vacant site in Ashoknagar Police Station on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Gautam,a resident of Wilson Garden.
Senior officer said passersby noticed his body lying in an empty graveyard site and alerted the authorities.Owing to the nature of the injuries,the incident was initially suspected to be a case of murder.
Police teams rushed to the spot and carried out a preliminary investigation and analyzed CCTV footage and during the course of inquiry,officials found evidence indicating that Gautam had allegedly taken the extreme step himself.
Investigators also learnt that the deceased was reportedly mentally disturbed and had recently escaped from a rehabilitation centre.
Police said his mother had left him,while his father was passed away few years ago.Officials added that Gautam is believed to have died on Thursday night, but the incident came to light only on Friday morning.
The body was shifted for postmortem examination.No suicide note was recovered from the spot,officer said.
The Ashoknagar Police have registered a case of unnatural death (UDR),and further investigation is underway.
