It is mandatory for tobacco traders to have a licence Special drive to be launched by BBMP and Police Says Bengaluru Police Commissioner

As part of no Tobacco day being observed worldwide on May 31,the city police along with the BBMP has launched a special drive and made it compulsory license for the shops and commercial establishments to sell tobacco products .

Since smoking is the first step for addiction,we have launched strict enforcement and with surprise checks and inspections at the shops and bars and restaurants to check on illegal sale and consumption of tobacco products,City police commissioner,B.Dayananda,said .

The police have been asked to monitor the sale of tobacco products to the minors and at the restricted areas such as schools and colleges and take strict actions.

The awareness programs are being held to inform the shop keepers and owners of the commercial establishments about the license for the sale of tobacco products along with the trade license.

The police officials and BBMP marshals have been directed to take stringent measures to ensure that the rules are being followed strictly .

The Bengaluru city police are committed to ensure health atmosphere and contain addictions among the people especially for the young generation.

Since the year 2024 to April this year the city police have booked as many as 57,130 cases against the violators under COTPA and collected a fine of Rs.80.08 lakh,he added .

The special drive and surprise inspections continue at public places,bars and restaurants to ensure the rules are not violated and the special provision like smoking zones are strictly maintained .
