Achieving another mile stone,the city police commissioner on tuesday said that the department has managed to geo-tag a total of 5.3 lakh CCTV cameras across the city which according to him will act as eyes and ears to monitor law and order .
Mr.Dayananda while addressing a press conference said that as on April 30,this year a total of 5,35,815 cameras were geo tagged to the Mobile Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (MCCTNS) to help crime prevention and detection .
As per the data from January 1,2024 to Aprill 30,2025, 3.03 lakh new cameras were geotagged with MCCTNS.
Before that,2.32 lakh CCTV cameras were part of the database.This cameras includes public and private cameras which are facing the roads,he said .
As per the rules every cameras which faces roads should be linked to the MCCTNS system as per the public safety act.
The CCTV cameras linked to MCCTNS helps in investigations and record the facts which is crucial for the probe .
When a crime occurs,investigators can access the MCCTNS database through the dedicated app and get the list of CCTV cameras installed at specific area to avail the service .
This will further improve the law and order situation and helps the police to plan for the law and order situation in a better ways, Mr.Dayananda, added .
