The Bangalore Traffic Police (BTP),of West Division Traffic police of Banashankari Traffic police personnel after 19 long years,traced a truck driver who was absconding to avoid his sentence of six months with a fine of Rs 3000 for running over a pedestrian and killing him on the spot in Seetha Circle in Girinagar coming under the Banashankari Traffic police limits in 2003.
The convict Narayanaswamy, 55, was traced after Metropolitan traffic court issued conviction warrant few daya ago .
Senior officer told reporters,the accident happened on March 24,2003 near the Seetha Circle in Girinagar where Narayanaswamy was driving a truck in a rash and negligent manner mowed down a pedestrian identified as Ranganna Naidu who was killed on the spot.
The Banashankari traffic police have registered a case booking Narayanaswamy under IPC sections 279 – riding or driving in a rash and negligent manner endangering public safety and 304-A – accidental death caused by criminal negligence among other sections.
The truck driver was then taken to police custody,recorded his statements and was subsequently out on bail after he submitted his personal bond and sureties.
Later after the chargesheet was filed by the police,the accused had attended the hearings and the lower court the 4th Metropolitan Magistrate Traffic Court convicted him in the road accident case and sentenced him to six months of imprisonment and Rs 3000 as penalty.
The accused went for an appeal at the High Court which heard the case for a while and upheld what the lower court had ordered.
The High Court upheld its order and the conviction notice was issued,but the accused then managed to hoodwink both the court and the police and went absconding.
Recently, after a conviction warrant reached the Banashankari traffic police, a team of officials pressed into action and traced the present address of the accused and picked him up from there.
He was produced before the judge and his statement again recorded after which he was sent to the Parappana Agrahara Central jail for his sentence to be served.
