he Railway police on Wednesday arrested a 25-year-old construction labourer who was on the run for the last 17 days after rape and murder of a 40-year-old woman at a tower wagon shed in Hassan Railway station on February 13.
The accused identified as Mousam Pahadi,from Nepal working as construction labourer in Hassan was drunk and moving around the station when he noticed the victim walking around.
Senior officer told reporters that the accused followed the woman and tried to force upon himself.The victim resisted following which he attacked her with a hollow brick and raped her while she was unconscious and killed her later.
The accused later left the body in the tower wagon shed and left the place.
Based on the complaint, the railway police analysed the CCTV footage and identified the accused. But the accused had escaped fearing arrest.
A special team of police circulated the photos and videos of the accused and kept a watch at the railway stations and bus stops before he was identified at the railway station on Tuesday.
The police are now continuing investigations to ascertain the identity of the victim.
