Bengaluru: Five-storeyed under-construction building collapses in Kasavanahalli killing 4; at least 15 feared trapped

Usage of Sub Standard Material led to tragedy .
In a frightening incident surfaced from Karnataka, an under-construction building collapsed on Kasuvanahalli’s Sarjapur road during the evening hours on February 15.As per reports, at least 4 people were killed and 15 are still suspected to be feared trapped under the debris of the building which collapsed. The rescue operation to evacuate workers who are feared trapped under the mound of the rubble of the collapsed building is still underway. Until now, around 9 workers have been rescued.

A five-storey under-construction building collapsed in Bengaluru on Thursday, killing at least three persons and injuring seven others. Several others are feared trapped, police said.
At the same time Two two wheelers passed while the building was collapsed one two wheeler rider had a great escape and survived unfortunately other two wheeler rider who was passing on the road came underneath the rubble .
Around 4 p.m., residents heard a loud noise. When they ran outside, they saw the building had collapsed. “We could hear people crying for help inside,” said an eyewitness. Residents began digging through the debris and were able to rescue four workers before eight fire tenders and the Bellandur police arrived at the spot.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel joined the rescue operations about 4.30 p.m., and were able to save five more trapped men. By midnight, six more were rescued. The NDRF teams and Civil Defence personnel were also part of the rescue operations.
As soon as the incident reported top brass  rushed to spot ,Like Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy along with Bengaluru Development Minister K.J.George,Arvind Limbavani BJP MLA,BBMP Mayor,Sampath Raj, BBMP Commissioner ,N Manjunath Prasad,DGP Fire and Emergency M N Reddi,Bengaluru city police commissioner T Suneel Kumar,Addl CP East, Seemanth Kumar Singh, DCPs as,Abdul Ahad,Dr.Borlingaiah with ACPs,Inspectors and staff rushed to spot to maintain law and order.
Rescue personnel divided themselves and started working on each floor, sometimes manually removing the tiles, at other times using a ladder to get in through the windows to ensure that there was no one still trapped inside the building. As the sunlight faded away, rescue operations continued with flashlights to spot any more people trapped inside the building.
Innocent labourers family members are in devastated.
Gravity of the situation is unimaginable.
Those injured in the Bengaluru building collapse have been shifted to a nearby hospital while rescue operations have been taken up on a war-footing. The condition of one of the injured is said to be critical.
Sampath Raj,BBMP Mayor told media persons that According to Bengaluru police, the under-construction building at Kasavanahalli suddenly collapsed around 3.30pm, trapping many. Fire brigade and police personnel, who were informed, launched rescue operations assisted by local people. Two labourers were found dead under the debris while one of the rescued succumbed to injuries in hospital. “We will initiate action against the owner and the contractor but our priority is to rescue people trapped under the debris, It is learnt that there were labourers from other states as well. Raj said the building collapsed because of weak foundation. “Rescue team is at work. the rescuers have gone inside the building,Bengaluru mayor R.Sampath Raj told media persons.
BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad,who visited the spot and after collecting all the stock of situation he said as soon as we got the news of building collapse we immediately informed the Fire department they were the first to rush to the spot later on CIVIL Defence and NDRF squad rushed and conducted a rescue operation and he even said that BBMP will take care of medical expenses of the victims who are admitted in hospital and are undergoing treatment and after the rescue operation we will order to demolish the building he added.
Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George, who visited the spot,and collected the stock of the situation and after inspecting the spot addressing media he told we have announced Rs.5 lakh exgratia  compensation to the families of the deceased. He also said that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike would bear the cost of treatment of those injured in the incident. Stating that the focus was now on rescue of those trapped, he said that an inquiry will be conducted into the incident.
Deputy commissioner of police of Whitefield division, Abdul Ahad, told media persons that the building belonged to one Rafique from HSR Layout.We are gathering more information.It was developed to accommodate paying guests but later the owner tried to convert it into a commercial building,”The construction had started six years ago but was stopped midway. Six months ago, construction work restarted, the deputy commissioner said.
City Police Commissioner T. Suneel Kumar reviewed the rescue operation and told that the labourers were from Jharkhand, Kalaburagi and Raichur and a stringent action will be initiated against the person who is found to be guilty a special team has been formed to nab the owner Rafiq who is absconding .Meanwhile our cops have arrested Sameera the Joint owner of the building and are interrogating her and a special team has been formed to arrest the builder and contractor of the building till 9 people have been rescued by the fire and NDRF team and we will also question BBMP officials and if they found guilty we will take stringent action against them also he added .
Karnataka Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy with other offcials visits the spot and reviews the rescue operations at the Building collapse site. He said poor quality of material as sub standard material has been used in constructing the building which has led to this tragedic incident he added.
Senior official said, A search was on as some more labourers were suspected to be trapped under the debris.The rescue operation has been taken up by personnel of the National Disaster Response Force, Fire and Emergency Services, Civil Defence and police .Meanwhile the rescue team is using LED and Camera to identify the victims in the debris and at around 11pm in the night the NDRF team bring in their NDRF DOG squad for rescue operation one labrador has been deployed to aid in search and rescue operation the labrador will help if any activity of human sound is going on in the debris.Soon after the accident, the site supervisor and one of owners of the building Abdul Rahman were found missing.The police have detained members of Rahman’s family, one of the building owners, Sameera, as well the BBMP engineer (Mahadevpura zone) Munni Reddy for questioning.The work on the building was nearing completion and the labourers are working on the interiors. Most of them hailed from Jharkhand, Raichur, and Kalburgi. The deceased have been identified as Sher Mohammed, Anwar Ansari and Raju. Among the injured Devendrappa, Bikas, Anil, Mohakam, Amith Kumar, Imam, Raghubis, Ramnivas, and Ramesh have been admitted to hospital.The Bellandur police have taken up a case against the owners under Section 304A of the IPC for causing death due to negligence and further investigation is on he added .
