India’s Need for a Men’s Commission:A Growing Concern

Dr.Thomas (Special Correspondent)

India urgently needs a Men’s Commission, akin to the Women’s Commission,to address the growing concerns of men falsely implicated in criminal cases.

Every day, numerous fake cases are reportedly registered against men, often based solely on a woman’s statement.

Many of these statements stem from personal revenge or grudges, leading to the misuse of legal provisions meant to protect women.

A common example is the filing of complaints after a relationship breakup.Women,in some instances, have accused men of rape post-breakup,despite the relationship being consensual.

In such cases, the police often register FIRs without thoroughly investigating the facts, leading to the arrest of the accused.

These men face public humiliation, stigma, and emotional trauma, not only for themselves but also for their families. While some men are eventually granted bail, the damage to their reputation is irreversible.

The Honourable Supreme Court of India has addressed this issue in several landmark judgments. It has ruled that if a sexual relationship occurred with mutual consent during a relationship, the woman cannot file rape or molestation complaints after a breakup or disagreement.Despite this, many men continue to suffer due to the misuse of legal provisions.

Another issue worth highlighting is the lack of accountability in cases where women exploit societal norms.

For instance, exposing nudity beyond socially accepted norms has led to complaints, but enforcement often lacks consistency.

Such incidents, combined with the influence of provocative content, can lead the younger generation to develop unrealistic fantasies or adopt unhealthy behaviors.

Additionally, there is a growing debate over the portrayal of homosexuality in media and cinema. Some argue that actors and influencers who promote homosexuality should be held accountable for what they believe is a deviation from India’s traditional moral values.

However, this view is highly controversial, given the nation’s evolving understanding of LGBTQ+ rights and acceptance.

India is a country deeply rooted in moral and cultural values. However, as new-age practices and ideologies emerge, there is a pressing need to balance progress with preserving core societal principles.

Establishing a Men’s Commission would ensure fair treatment for all genders and prevent the misuse of laws while promoting justice and equality in the country.
