The Pavagada police have arrested a couple and two of their relatives for beating a 59-year-old journalist publicly with slippers and humiliated him for carrying a news report against them.
The accused Narayana Reddy,49,his wife Roopa,38,and their relatives Lakshmi Devi,48,and Adilakshmi,48,have been charged with section 117 (causing grievous hurt) , 115 (voluntarily causing hurt)133(assault or criminal force with the intent to dishonor or humiliate someone) , 324 (mischief causing wrongful loss or damage),351 (criminal intimidation),352 (intentionally insult to provoke a breach of peace),190 (unlawful assembly) and 54 (abetment)under BNS for further investigations.
The victim in his complaint said that the prime accused Narayana Reddy was arrested by the police in some other case earlier and being a journalist in a local news paper,the news of arrest is reported .
The accused threatened him with dire consequences and warned that he would pay supari to eliminate him and his family members for humiliating him.
The victim has filed a complaint with the police in this regard citing threat to his life which is being probed.
On Monday the accused along with his family members confronted Ramanjinappa while in the busy pavagada town while he was making purchase at a shop and assaulted him black and blue,while people watched as mute spectators .
The accused beat him with slippers and tore his clothes threatening him with dire consequences that he will be eliminate through supari killing .
Due to the assault the victim developed blur vision on his left eye and got admitted to a private hospital for treatment before filing a complaint.
Based on the complaint the police have arrested the accused while efforts are on to track down the others who are on the run said a senior officer.
