Pondicherry:A significant step towards the integration of Indian knowledge system into the National Education Policy was discussed during Vice Chancellor’s meet at the Gy an Kumbh 2024.

Dr.Atul Kothari,National Secretary of Shiksha Sanskruti Utthan Nyas, emphasized the need to incorporate India’s rich philosophical and cultural heritage into modern education.

Dr.Kothari highlighted the profound wisdom embedded in ancient Indian texts like the Vedas,Upanishads, and Puranas.

He argued that these texts offer solutions to many of the world’s contemporary challenges, from mental health to environmental sustainability.

The National Education Policy 2020,which prioritizes the integration of Indian knowledge tradition, aligns with this vision.

To implement this vision, several key strategies were proposed:

Curriculum Reform:Incorporating Indian history, philosophy, and spirituality into various subjects, from science and mathematics to humanities and social sciences.

Pedagogical Innovations:Adopting Indian teaching methods like Shravan,Manan, and Nididhyasan to enhance learning and understanding.

Research and Innovation:Promoting research in areas like Vedic mathematics, Ayurveda, and Yoga to address modern challenges.

Skill Development: Integrating traditional skills and crafts into vocational education to empower students and preserve cultural heritage.

Character Building:Fostering moral values and ethical principles rooted in Indian philosophy.

By embracing India’s rich intellectual heritage, the nation can equip its future generations with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to thrive in the 21st century.
