As many as 1 self accident reported by traffic police in and around the city among the two wheelers who were under the influence of alcohol across the city .
Even though a total number of 15 road accidents involving drink and drive is reported since January to May the positive rate of drunk and drive has reduced compared to last year .
Joint Commissioner of police, Traffic,MN Anucheth, while claiming that the percentage of drunk and driving have come down with 2.6 per cent in the last five months compared to last year drunk drivers positive rate of 5.2 per cent .
According to him,the accident rate involving drunk drivers was recorded 4.5 per cent last year,the last months per centage recorded this year is 4.3 per cent .
However self accidents among drunk drivers are more with 11out of total 15 drink and drive accident cases are self accident, compared to 11 self accident among 21 drunk driving accident cases registered last year.
Meanwhile,Alok Kumar,ADGP, Traffic and road safety, said that the state police have resorted to special drive to check violations on highways which resulted in increasing in number of accidents .
In his official social media account,Mr.Alok Kumar said that the special drive conducted on Monday as teach based enforcement is not enough to ensure road discipline and contain accidents .
According to him,a total number of 417 motorists have been booked for driving drunk and 640 people caught riding triple on two wheelers .
While 610 drivers were booked for carrying passengers in goods vehicle a total of 5639 bikers were booked for riding without helmet.
It may be recalled that as many as 51 people were killed in road accidents reported across the state on Monday.
Majority of the accidents were caused due to rash and reckless driving and not adhering to road safety guidelines .
