Constable on duty attached to Peenya police caught a retired engineer of BESCOM, who posing as police Inspector moving around in vehicle with police sticker, carrying a walkie-talkie to cheat people .
Based on the tip off,Constable Sanjeev Maruthi, confronted the accused on Tuesday identified as Gangadhar and found that the mobile number he was using also displayed in the Truecaller as Police Inspector Peenya station.
Initial probe revealed that the accused posing as police Inspector suspected to have cheated many people promising official favours and taken money.
The accused was moving around with some fake Police ID, to cheat people and also damage the reputation of the police department.
Considering the sensitivity,the case was handed over to the Central Crime Branch for a detailed probe, a senior officer, said .
