Road Safety Week 2023: “Roads For Painting”163 Traffic Signals will be upgraded with Emergency Vehicle Sensors For Ambulances

The National Road Safety Week 2023,was inaugurated by Commissioner of Police,CH Pratap Reddy,in the presence of,Special Commissioner Traffic,MA Saleem,Transport Commissioner,Siddaramappa N,Joint CP Traffic,MN Anucheth,DCPs,as,Kuldeep Kumar R Jain,Smt.Kala Krishnamurthy,Sachin Ghorpade,with all ACPs,PIs,with other staffs, students of various school with all cobras were present.

A Massive Rally was flagged off by dignitaries and all the cobras with school students carrying placards took out a massive rally to pass a awareness message to public to follow traffic rules.

As many as 163 traffic signal lights across the city will soon be upgraded with emergency vehicle adoption sensors to allow ambulance thoroughfares.

About 1.3 million people being killed on the roads every year and India witnesses about 1.55 lakh deaths due to road traffic accidents.

Nearly 750 people lose their lives and 5000 people are injured every year due to road accidents in Bengaluru City.

Bangalore Traffic Police is trying its best to reduce traffic congestion and ensure greater safety on roads through various initiatives.

Recent effective enforcement through campaigns like drive against drunken driving, compulsory wearing
of Helmets,Lane Discipline,Campaign against the use of Mobile Phones while driving etc,had good impact on road users.But there is a need to create further awareness to bring discipline on roads.

This according to MA Saleem,Special commissioner of Police,Traffic, said that this is a step towards priority of saving life during golden hour.

Many road users,hospital managements and concerned citizen welcomed the move stating that it was need of the hour,considering the present traffic scenario .

Saleem said this is part of the B track project where the department has got an approval and roped in Karnataka Road Development Corporation (KRDCL) to procure the required equipment to upgrade the signa lights .

The project is expected to complete within four months and all the ambulance operating in the city have been installed with small equipment to respond to the signal lights to turn it green.

This is going to expedite the process of ambulance ferrying patients in golden hour and enable Emergency vehicle preemption (EVP)designed to give emergency response vehicles a green light When the ambulance is close to a traffic signal,the device and allow to pass through .

Once the vehicle pass through,the signal automatically turn red and continue to work as usual .

So far the traffic police are managing the show manually and in order to help this to expedite the situation,a dedicated staff members of 108 have been provided a cabin at the Traffic management center to coordinate with the staff to help ambulance pass through the signals with minimum time period,Mr. Saleem, explained to reporters.

It may be recalled that the project was proposed in 2015 and went through a series of tests,before it was shelved some some unknown reasons.

In this regard,Bangalore City Traffic Police have taken up“Road Safety Through Painting”an innovative painting competition.

The objective of the painting competition is to raise awareness on road safety and the participants could delve in topics such as,‘Drunken Driving,Use of Mobile Phones,Use of seat belts’etc.
