Duo conmen arrested by Chickballapur police for posing as NHAI officials and cheating landlord promising compensation

The Chikkaballapura police on Wednesday arrested two conmen who posing as officials of national highway land acquisition department cheated a landlord promising compensation .

Based on the complaint filed by one of the victim, Srinivasa Reddy,the police registered a case in August 23 and track down Syed Mubarak, 34, from Attibele and his associate Akram Pasha, from Anekal .

The police also recovered Rs.1.2 lakh from them,.

Senior officer told reporters the duo had approached Mr.Reddy promised to get him Rs.28 lakh compensation for the peace of land which is being acquired for national highway.

The duo asked him to pay a sum of Rs.1.6 lakh towards various fee and also to buy bond paper to apply for the compensation.

Based on the complaint the police track down the accused through the mobile phone they were using.

During the course of investigation the police came to know that the accused had purchased a pre-activated SIM card from Assam from a shop in Hosur .

The police investigations suspected it to be a racket for selling pre activated SIMs from other states in Tamil Nadu and in and around Bengaluru to be used for anti social activities .

The police have stepped up the investigations to track down the shop owner who sold the SIM card to Mubarak .

The accused told the police that they have been advised to destroy the SIM card once being used for anti social activities,a senior officer, said.
