The Karnataka Cabinet has approved a major restructuring of the Bengaluru city police Commissionerate into five separate Commissionerates in the wake of the formation of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA),Home Minister Priyank Kharge said.
Under the proposed restructuring,Bengaluru will have East,West,North,South and Central police commissionerates.
The existing post of Bengaluru Police Commissioner will be elevated to Chief Commissioner of Police,who will oversee the five Commissionerates.
The Cabinet has also approved the creation of 1,022 new police posts to strengthen crime control,traffic management and public safety.
The proposed five commissionerates will require a total of around 6,550 posts.
Besides the newly sanctioned posts,existing personnel will be redeployed to meet the manpower requirements of the new structure.


Six new ACP posts:
The traffic wing will also be strengthened.Six new Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) posts will be created,including two for the Central Traffic Division,one each for the West and North Traffic Divisions,and two for the West Law and Order Division.
276 personnel for 11 police stations:
The Cabinet has further approved 276 additional personnel for 11 police stations,including stations in the city’s peripheral areas.
The establishment of the new police stations and deployment of personnel will be taken up in phases after completion of the recruitment process.
The restructuring is aimed at making the police administration more effective in view of Bengaluru’s rapid geographical expansion,rising population and increasing demands on law and order and traffic management,Kharge said.
