Abhijit Ray, Kolkata:The wait is over. The newly constructed ‘Alipore Museum’ on the land of Alipore Central Jail will be opened for visitors. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will inaugurate this museum today on Wednesday. The glorious history of freedom struggle is being presented in this museum. History will be captured almost alive in pictures, light and sound.The penitentiary made its debut in 1906 on 15.2 acres of land. This prison has witnessed many incidents of colorful history. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Over time, the state plans to build a museum at this heritage site.The state decided to shift the inmates of the correctional facility to the Baruipur campus in a phased manner. Hidco was entrusted with the task of building a museum at Alipore. To make the museum very attractive to the general public, a part of the wall has paintings by famous artists.The glorious history of the freedom struggle will be depicted every evening in lights and sounds. There is also a special exhibition on Netaji Subhas and Gandhiji.
