Awareness campaign launched by CCB,to put a break on online frauds says call 112 or 1930 in Golden hour

In an effort to contain the growing cyber crimes offences,officials of the Central Crime Branch on Friday launched awareness campaign to inform people on Dos and Don’ts for the victims of the online frauds.

Raman Gupta,Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime),though the city crime graph or statistics is under control, offences related to cyber crimes are on the rise.

This is due to virtual world through which cyber criminals operate vulnerability of the people,he said .

In an effort to contain the offences,the city police had launched Cybercrime Incident Report (CIR) system in April last year with a dedicated helpline number of 112 .

A dedicated team of police operate from control room to coordinate with the representatives of various banks on the directions of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to freeze the beneficiary’s account within the golden period .

The victims can call the helpline number 112 or 1930 without delay to help the police to act.

The sooner you report the higher chances of probability of getting the money back,Mr.Gupta, said in his message to the people .

Since the inception,a dedicated team of police working round the clock managed to freeze over 190 crores since 2021.

However the police manged to get back only part of the money and major portion of the money is still stuck due to technical and legal problems,a senior police officer, said .

This is again depending on the calls we get within golden hour,a police officer,added.

Last week, a journalist from a reputed newspaper lost Rs.2 lakh to online fraud but since he reported to 112 within few minutes of the incident,the police with the help of bank officials managed to freeze the account and recover the money.

Cyber crime officials said that the most common form of online frauds are related to banks where fraudsters posing as bank officials asking the victim to share OTP,KYC updates and sometimes send the links or links to be clicked to access bank accounts.

People should know that no banks or any institutions authorised to demand for the bank details or PIN numbers .

Unfortunately educated people are falling prey to online frauds and losing lakhs of rupees,Mr Gupta said.

Since Prevention is better than cure,the city police led by City police commissioner, CH Pratap Reddy, is creating awareness online and also on various platforms requesting people to be careful and report the incident on 112 without delay,he added.
