A proposal was received from Book Baggage.com, which is a service providing agency that specialises in baggage delivery systems, proposing to implement a Sanitization tunnel for baggage disinfection along with a wrapping machine for passenger luggage at Ahmedabad Railway Station so as to ensure minimal exposure to infectious microbes.

With the easing of the lockdown guidelines amidst the ongoing pandemic, the momentum in transport and travel services is gradually picking up. To ensure safe travel of passengers, the division found it imperative to introduce technology based sanitizing solution for passengers’ luggage.

BookBaggage.com proposed to establish a 360 degrees Ultraviolet (UV) sanitization tunnel and wrapping solution. The UV disinfection conveyor uses a narrow bandwidth of 254nm in the UV spectrum of 200-280 nm. Their system leaves no harmful residue on the surface that it sanitises nor does it damage baggages like absorbent materials as in the case of chemical disinfectants. They use long life UV lamps with 9000 hours of life. There are no harmful effects on tiffins, food, vegetables or water. This is an ideal solution for the passengers travelling by the railways. Their wire mesh conveyor belt is an innovative product which allows 360 degrees sanitization. They have a bank of 20 UV lamps in all directions to ensure sufficient irradiation. Emergency features ensure immediate stop of machine incase of exigencies.
