esident’s of wind tunnel road were in shock when a man armed with machette attacked a woman passing by brutally and tried to escape before he was pinned down by few people on Monday evening.
The accused later identified as shiekh mujeeb,37,a cab driver who assaulted his estranged wife Nigar,28, accusing her of having illicit affair.
Mujeeb was later handed over to JB Nagar police and the victim Nigar was rushed to manipal hospital.
Inquiry revealed that Mujeeb a native of Hosakote was married to Nigar a few years ago.It was a love marriage and Nigar was working in a private firm.
The couple used to have frequent fights after mujeeb started suspecting Nigar.
Unable to bear harassment Nigar moved out and started living in a paying guest.
Accused suspected Nigar having an affair and kept a tab on her to check she was moving around with a man identified as saleem.
Enraged mujeeb bought a machette from shivajinagar and waited on wind tunnel road for the arrival of Nigar after work.
The accused attacked her with machette and tried to escape,but few passersby caught him and handed over to police.
The JB Nagar police have registered a case of attempts to murder and investigations are on.
