The Karnataka Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP),Dr.MA Saleem has directed all Police Commissioners,Range Inspectors General and Superintendents of Police to examine a complaint seeking greater accountability of senior officers under the State’s revamped beat policing system.
In a communication dated July 14, 2026,issued from the Office of the DG&IGP, Karnataka,the police headquarters forwarded a government letter dated June 15,2026 regarding a petition on the implementation of the improved beat system.
According to the petition,while beat personnel are being held accountable for lapses in their jurisdictions,officers of the rank of Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) and above are allegedly limiting their role to routine supervision and are not being made equally responsible for failures in beat policing.
The petitioner has urged the department to fix greater responsibility on officers above the rank of PSI so that accountability is shared across all levels of the policing hierarchy,rather than being confined to beat staff alone.
The DG&IGP has instructed all field units to examine the matter and take appropriate action after reviewing the concerns raised in the representation.
