Three men have been arrested for allegedly abducting, gang-raping and robbing a 30-year-old woman in Karnataka’s T.Narasipura town,Mysuru district,police said on Sunday.
The accused,identified as Kiran,Kishore and Ryan,are residents of T. Narasipura.
They were arrested by a special police team constituted soon after the victim lodged a complaint.
According to the FIR,the survivor,a native of West Bengal who works at a fast-food shop in T.Narasipura to support her ailing grandmother,had returned from Mysuru city after attending a friend’s birthday celebration on the night of July 18.
Around 9.45 pm,while she was walking home near the T. Narasipura bus stand,a grey car stopped beside her.The driver allegedly asked for directions,and when she replied that she did not know Kannada,two men allegedly forced her into the vehicle.
The accused allegedly threatened to assault her with a beer bottle if she resisted.
Senior officer told reporters that the accused drove her along the Gunjanarasimhaswamy Temple road towards Muguru village,making multiple stops near hotels before taking her to a lodge around 11.30 pm.
There, the three men allegedly raped her one after another.
The accused also allegedly robbed the woman of Rs.5,000 in cash and two mobile phones,and demanded more money.
Hoping to escape,the survivor allegedly told them she had Rs.1 lakh at her residence.
Believing her,the accused drove her back to T. Narasipura and dropped her near her house between 1.30 am and 2 am.
The woman immediately informed her landlord,who alerted the police.The suspects allegedly fled after noticing a police patrol vehicle in the area.
Based on her complaint,T.Narasipura police registered a case under Sections 70 (gang rape),74,137(2),309(4) read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS),2023.
Police launched a swift investigation,leading to the arrest of all three accused.Further investigation is in progress.
