Bengaluru Woman Dies by Suicide Allegedly Over Dowry Harassment;Husband Arrested

A 31-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide following sustained dowry harassment by her husband and father-in-law in Bengaluru’s Kalasipalya police station limits.

The deceased,identified as Maimonnisa(31),was found hanging at her matrimonial home on Friday.

According to the complaint lodged by her family, Maimonnisa was subjected to continuous harassment by her husband,Junaid,and father-in-law,Nazir Ahmed, who allegedly demanded additional dowry despite receiving 45 grams of gold and a motorcycle at the time of the marriage.

The family alleged that the accused repeatedly pressured her to bring more cash and gold from her parental home and that Nazir Ahmed frequently abused her using derogatory language.

The sustained harassment allegedly left Maimonnisa under severe mental distress, ultimately driving her to take the extreme step.

Based on the complaint,the Kalasipalya police have registered a case under the relevant provisions relating to dowry harassment and abetment of suicide.

The police have arrested Junaid,while further investigation is underway.
