*Name boards must be installed at all BWSSB work sites.
Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao directed officials to register criminal cases against owners of buildings in the vulnerable localities within the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) limits that do not have mandatory fire safety systems.
Addressing a coordination meeting with various departments under the GBA,he instructed that fire safety audits must be conducted in the city’s sensitive locations.

He directed the concerned authorities to initiate criminal proceedings against owners of buildings that fail to provide the required fire safety measures.
He also instructed officials to install fire hydrants along newly constructed white-topping roads in vulnerable areas to ensure water availability during fire emergencies.
The installed hydrants must be properly maintained and inspected every month,and any defects should be rectified immediately.
*Install name boards compulsorily:
Chief Commissioner observed that the GBA receives criticism because BWSSB works and road restoration are often not carried out properly.
He directed that every BWSSB work site must display a name board containing details of the project.He also instructed officials to ensure that road-cutting works are completed within the stipulated time and that road restoration is carried out with high quality standards.
*Tow vehicles after notice period expires:
He stated that sticker notices have been issued since July 10 to remove abandoned vehicles parked on streets across the five City Corporations under the GBA.
Vehicle owners have been given seven days to remove their vehicles after paying the prescribed penalty.If they fail to do so within the notice period,traffic police have been instructed to tow the vehicles immediately.
*Carry out asphalting works in coordination:
Officials were directed to complete ongoing civil works under the SIP grant on major arterial and sub-arterial roads at the earliest and commence asphalting works.
They were also instructed to coordinate with the traffic police to ensure smooth vehicular movement during the works and maintain quality standards.
*Prepare for the”Freedom from Waste”campaign:
A month-long”Freedom from Waste”campaign will be conducted throughout August.City Corporations,K-RIDE, Railways and BMRCL authorities have been instructed to jointly identify locations containing construction and demolition waste,mounds of soil,overgrown vegetation and other waste.
Officials were further directed to complete all necessary preparations, including collecting information on unused quarries,registered and operational vehicles,and deploying the required workforce to ensure the campaign’s success.
*Other key decisions discussed during the meeting:
•Officials were directed to expedite the widening works on Sampigehalli Main Road.
•Instructions were issued to speed up the sterilisation programme for street dogs.
•City Corporations were directed to constitute Town Vending Committees and expedite the distribution of new identity cards to street vendors.
•The ongoing drive to clear encroachments on footpaths must continue without interruption.
•Fire safety systems must be made mandatory at K.R. Market,and a concrete flooring must be laid in the leafy vegetable vending area.
•Non functional lifts at skywalks should be repaired and made operational at the earliest.
The meeting was attended by BDA Commissioner Manivannan,Special Commissioner Niteesh,Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Ltd.CEO,Karigowda,Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar,Venkatachalapathi,Chief Engineers, and officials from K-RIDE,BWSSB,BESCOM,the Traffic Police,KPTCL,and various other departments.
